With his development in Europe, the point guard has become one of the finest in the country. He played for Valencia in Spain’s Liga ACB and this past season for Serbia’s KK Crvena Zvezda, which won the Adriatic Basketball League. The best player on the Zvezda team was Loyd. Loyd was Zvezda’s leading scorer in the EuroLeague, averaging 17.3 points per game. His size, quickness, range, and defensive prowess make him appear ready for the NBA. Loyd is approaching his prime at the age of 28, and he’s doing so while facing some of the best competition outside of the NBA. His first season in professional basketball will be with Zenit St. Petersburg in the EuroLeague in 2021-22.
- Bob McAdoo
The Buffalo Braves drafted him with the second pick in the 1972 NBA draft, and he had an immediate influence on the league. Averaging 30.6 points per game in his sophomore year, he ranked first on the team’s scoring average. In his third season, McAdoo continued to improve, averaging 34.5 points and 14.1 rebounds to earn his second consecutive scoring title. Before moving to Europe, the NBA MVP had an impressive career, winning two titles and being named MVP on one occasion. The five-time All-Star won one Italian Cup and two league championships while playing for three Italian teams over the course of seven years. In addition, there were two EuroLeague titles and a EuroLeague Finals MVP.
- Shane Larkin
Shane Larkin is the finest American player in the EuroLeague now that Mike James has joined the NBA. With Anadolu leading Europe, Larkin guided Efes to their first European League title in club history, overcoming Barcelona despite a tough start and numerous setbacks. Aside from cementing his place as one of the most decorated players in Turkish basketball history, Larkin made history by becoming the first player to win both the Euroleague and Turkish League Finals MVP awards in the same season. Larkin is a versatile offensive player with excellent speed, defense, quickness, and shooting. He’s better, in my opinion than some of the NBA’s current starters at the point guard position.
- Kyle Hines
Hines has an uncanny knack for coming out on top. When he’s not playing hard or smart, he’s playing any style, and he can guard five positions. He’s like Draymond Green in Europe or Tim Duncan in Europe. In Europe, he appears to be the most sought-after player. It’s unusual for more than one European League team to win four championships in a row. As for 6-foot-11 Hines, I often wonder what he would have looked like. When it came to these players, the NBA was sorely lacking. Hines, on the other hand, appears to have walked away with a fortune and a legendary standing in Europe. The Italian Cup, Italian Super Cup, 4× EuroLeague champion, and German League champion are just some of the honors he’s received.
- Dominique Wilkins
During the course of his 17-year professional basketball career, Dominique Wilkins made numerous visits to and from the NBA. Wilkins excelled at dunking the ball, and he took that ability to Europe on both of his trips there. During his time in Greece, he played with Panathinaikos and was an integral part of their 1996 Greek Cup victory. Additionally, he was named MVP of the Greek Cup Finals and scored the most points. After a year in Greece, Wilkins returned to the NBA and played on the San Antonio Spurs’ bench. In the end, though, he chose to play in Italy for Fortutido Bologna, where he was instrumental in their Italian Cup victory. In his final NBA appearance, the two-time slam dunk champion returned to the Orlando Magic. He retired from professional basketball at the end of the 1998-99 season and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
